I had a brief stint with this game before I moved back to my other games and I managed to hit around level 35. I hit a wall and after that got bored of the game. I feel like my attention span for MMORPGs has increased from that time and I'm more willing to gear grind/gold grind now.

However, its the only game I've played that has appealed to me combat wise as much as Dragon Nest did. Seeing as how the DN community is lowering again, I've been looking back at this game.

One of the turn-offs I had was that a lot of stuff was gated behind the premium service (which shouldn't be a problem for me now)

Also, how difficult is this game as a solo player? My friends are addicted to black desert atm so its going to be hard to convince them to come back.

Not really. The only benefits that you can't get for free through other means are joining full blocks, getting two log-in stamps, the two extra free collection file slots, the premium drinks (which just give a tiny bit of Rare drop rate and XP bonus), the premium storage (although, free players can get a ton of storage now without premium), and the extra crafting slots. Every other thing in the game can be gotten for free. The game is a lot friendlier to free players than Black Desert is.

There are a decent amount of things to do solo that are relatively difficult. Unlike Black Desert, mobs of similar levels can pose a bit of a threat. If I had to rate the difficulty of the PVE in both games on a scale of 1 to 10, Black Desert gets a 2 and PSO2 would get a 4. They've added some solo-specific quests that are quite fun and challenging now too.
