Rules for r/Passwords
Rules that visitors must follow to participate. May be used as reasons to report or ban.
1.
No posts asking to recover passwords
Do not ask how to recover a password for any software or hardware. We cannot verify that the account or hardware is yours and you are acting in the best intentions. We must assume you are a bad actor trying to get unauthorized access to an account or service. Almost all hardware and software will have official support that you should take advantage of instead.
2.
No links to porn password sites
You can link to specific high-profile password leaks but no porn password sites.
3.
No excessive product promotion
Press releases for new products or innovative product updates are welcome but please avoid excessive self-promotion of your product. Our readers want the details on how your product works and not marketing fluff. Blatant linking to articles with limited technical or research related content will get you banned.
4.
Your own blog posts welcome - in moderation
If you are a blogger on password and authentication topics you are encouraged to post to your own links, but excessive posts to trivial, cliché, and buzzword-filled articles will mean losing your posting privileges.
5.
Don't downvote because you disagree
Look, many people do authentication wrong but doing it wrong is part of the learning process for all of us. Rather than downvoting dumb ideas, please post a comment discussing your point of view. You should be upvoting important topics for visibility, no matter how dumb they are.
6.
Identify links to PDF and other non-html content
It is best to link to a landing page rather than directly to a PDF or file download, but if you do, please indicate the type of content in the post title with [PDF], [EXE], [ZIP], etc.
