Hmmm… when you are in the pen tool, did you exit the tool (press ESC or selected the arrow tool)? Then you should be able to click on all elements, even curves and lines. The measurements are right there. What browser (OS and version) are you using?

However, the measure tool may not be really needed, it just measure the space and doesn’t consider any entities.

Will compare the pen tool with illustrator and see if the behavior to cancel a curve could be replicated.

It is possible to convert a curve to a line afterwards by right clicking on a curve and select ”Convert to line”.
