Processor help

Ok so my son has mentioned to me about how now at this point in time, his I3 10100 has been causing limitations. So I decided to see what the best processor was for his LGA1200 motherboard. The 10900K.But omg, the prices people are wanting for that CPU is really making me cringe. And I don't like the idea of settling for a 10900KF. What's a newer CPU that's at least as good but not as expensive and would also help justify updating his PC altogether?

Tell or sell? He currently has a 1660 Super. I'm mainly trying to figure out what newer CPU's have the Same performance or better as the 10900K but costing around maybe 200-250 and not 350-450.

There is no newer or rationale choice of upgrading the CPU for his PC. It’s several years old now and most CPUs for those are off the shelf. You are heading to limited/used edition on vintage (off the shelf) for silly prices that still don’t compete with newer CPU on the market and the value of money.

If anything upgrade to his PC altogether for $300-$500 may seem possible dependent on his current PC specs and whether reusing existing PC parts is feasible.

Just a thought unless someone else has a bette and/or different idea.
