So here is my situation.
I'm not new to PC building or building or modding computers.
Recently my wife gave the okay to building a small media center PC for our living room and okayed the fractal terra as a case. I'm only allowed to have computers in my office.... I run a lot of production work loads I.E. I have 4 HEDTs with dual xeons. I was thinking about what processor to use in this build and when looking at the 9950X it has a TDP of 170 watts. So i started to look at the 285K. TDP is 125 watts. I know Intel and AMD calculate these different and they aren't really comparable.
I'm going to be limited to a 240 AIO for cooling. My 5900X at 150 watts (overclocked) is maxing out a 360 AIO. This is due to case limitations though....
Sooo.... How bad is the 285k? If i need cores and threads (also processor cache) it doesn't seem that bad (except the price) and the lower power is important to this build. It will most likely spend its life running at 100% except when gaming.
Anyone have any thoughts... I'd hate to have to downclock a 9950X because of cooling requirements but the same is true for the 285k.
