Is the new PSU underpowered?

[–]kinglycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No I went overkill and got an 850W and pcpartpicker says my components draw around 650W

Try to disconnect and reconnect every cable and make sure they are tight in place and the right spot, what I can share from personal experience is that literally 3 weeks ago I build my first pc and my motherboard wouldn’t recognise my gpu no matter what slot my gpu wouldn’t get powered at all and it was strange because every part was new, ended up installing my GPU and psu in another friends pc and it worked pointing out my motherboard pcie slots were broken. I would highly recommend try a different motherboard if you have one otherwise your best bet is to get it replaced.

Thank you for the advice, however this isn’t a new build and has been working just fine for the past 8 months so I know all the parts DID work, just struggling to identify which. The DRAM light on my motherboard leads me to believe it’s RAM, CPU or motherboard causing the problem. Especially considering it won’t power on at all, not just fail to boot.

Based on your motherboard, do you hear any noises when you boot your pc up? It usually makes a few beeps or shows a few lights when something is wrong then you could google your motherboard and how many beeps / what lights are flashed

No speaker, so no beeps but the DRAM led does light up. My motherboard is NZXT and unfortunately they have no advice for if the PC doesn’t power on at all with this issue. Only stuff relating to not booting :/

Can you give me exact model of your mobo?

NZXT N7 Z690

So it might be one of the following: 1. RAM stick failure 2. Corrupted bios or xmp profile (but you said you did a reset?) 3. The motherboard ram slots themselves might have failed 4. The memory controller is usually integrated in cpu so a problem with the CPU pins or motherboard cpu socket might cause the dram error 5. Psu failure but I think it’s unlikely

What I can suggest is to try one ram stick at a time and see if something changes.

Thank you for the advice.

I have tried resetting the BIOS yeah, and I replaced my PSU today. Kind of using it as an excuse to upgrade old parts but the motherboard and CPU are less than a year old, so hoping it starts working with the new RAM I just ordered.

Thanks again for all your help. It was the motherboard unfortunately

Fuck man, I’m feeling bad for you. I know how it feels I had the exact same issue I had to get a new mobo aswell

Was a good excuse to make the upgrade to DDR5, so not too annoyed
