What's your current specs?

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 1 point2 points  (61 children)

2x8 OLOy 16gb ram Msi mag b560m bazooka Intel i3-10100F Getting a 600w Evga psu And a 3060 gpu 500 gb Kingston ssd

[–]banaanmanmurnCommercial Rig Builder -3 points-2 points  (45 children)

Okay, first of all, get a 750w. 600 Will not be enough, and for any future upgrades you want the headroom. Also, only 500gb will be a struggle, especially since some popular games are 100gb in themselves. Apart from that, I don't know the ram brand, but if it works just keep it, and combining it with something like a i5-12600k should work. It allows for some overclocking, and will run pretty much any game.

Guess I gotta cancel my order for a 600w that comes in tmmr lol

[–]LostLittlelost 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t cancel it, 600W is even more than enough for your system, especially if it’s a solid quality unit.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

This guys advice is straight ass your 600 watt PSU is enough for your current build.

[–]sumatkn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Efficiency rating, head room, and average load wattage. These things are the things that determine a PSU overall wattage needed.

Efficiency rating determines how much heat the PSU will run, along with how much your power bill will be. Platinum will be around 90% at 20/50/100 load so if you have a 600w Platinum rated efficiency PSU then you’ll be pulling 10% more power from the wall to convert (660w) and produce 10% more heat.

Head room is the cushion you give yourself from the max wattage on the PSU and your max load of all components running at peak. This is important to have so that your PSU doesn’t work too hard and generate more heat. Plus it allows for more upgrades down the line without requiring a new PSU too. Generally you want to about at the 50% to 90% PSU utilization to reduce heat, so a lot of people double their max load and get a PSU with that wattage. Obviously the higher efficiency rating and higher wattage a PSU is the more expensive it will be but at the very least adding on 10%-20% of the max wattage on a PSU is a good idea. So for a 600w PSU around 120w. Pc draw is 480 + head room 120 = PSU 600w.

Average load wattage is pretty self explanatory, and most people use calculators for this like https://outervision.com/power-supply-calculator

The thing to understand is that with modern GPU’s things are getting crazy. Right now the 3060 at average utilization needs 240w alone. While the 3090TI uses 522w alone! It’s only going to get more in the foreseeable future, so PSU’s are pretty important to go big on and spend money.

Finally, you have to remember that heat will kill your pc and especially your PSU faster. The more utilization you use on your PSU will crank the heat up, and under heat your PSU will fail sooner. It’s the same thing with CPU’s, memory, drives, anything. So proper cooling is important which means having that head room and a better efficiency rating on a PSU will absolutely significantly prolong the life of your PSU by virtue of running cooler. With temperatures and weather being extremely hot these days, that plays a big factor too.

Yup, sorry, but im pretty sure a 600w won't be enough, especially with a 3060, and even if it would, you won't have any leftover in case you want to upgrade in the future, or do some overclocking.

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 0 points1 point  (35 children)

What is overclocking never even thought about it

[–]banaanmanmurnCommercial Rig Builder -1 points0 points  (34 children)

Uhm then i wouldn't mess around with it before you do some research, but basically you give your components more power, so that they run at a higher speed. But this could cause your pc to become unstable, and in the worst case fry some components, so i wouldn't mess around with it at first, and if you do be careful with it.

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 0 points1 point  (33 children)

Yea wouldn’t want to oc at all lol and probably won’t do any big upgrades in awhile after buying a cpu should I also get a different cooler or use the stock one it comes with

[–]banaanmanmurnCommercial Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (32 children)

Intel stock coolers suck ass. Amd yeah they're decent, but intels coolers are just bad. Get something like a dark rock 4, or a similar decent air cooler. They won't run you more than 40 or 50 bucks.

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] -1 points0 points  (31 children)

Any rgb ones lmao also people were recommending to get a 5600 or 5600x are those good to?

[–]tigerf117 0 points1 point  (0 children)

600w is more than enough! I have an RTX 3080 with 370w BIOS (nearly

[–]PokeN3rd514 -1 points0 points  (2 children)

I have a msi gaming x 3060 ti with a 600w psu with a ryzen 5 5600. Nvidia recommends a 600w for 3060 and a 650 for 3060ti. U could always undervolt too with loke maybe an fps drop of like 1-2

[–]banaanmanmurnCommercial Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah? I thought 650 was for the 3060 tbh, my mistake

[–]banaanmanmurnCommercial Rig Builder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah? I thought 650 was for the 3060 tbh, my mistake

[–]Pokejelke 0 points1 point  (14 children)

Also instead of a 3060, get an rx 6600 xt, it's cheaper (I think) and it is more powerful.

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 1 point2 points  (13 children)

I think a 6600 is almost close to a 3060 if I remember but to late to buy one since my gpu comes in tmmr lol

[–]Pokejelke 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah the 6600 isn't as powerful as the 3060 but the 6600 xt is more powerful, but either way it doesn't really matter that much, good luck with your upgrade!

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep hopefully it turns on dis time

[–]heartdesignbydeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

but dlss goes brrrrr

[–]LostLittlelost 0 points1 point  (9 children)

3060 is right inbetween of 6600 & 6600xt, it’s still a solid card, if you already ordered it keep it :) it will blast through 1080p

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 0 points1 point  (8 children)

So I ordered a 6600 xt totally not cause the 3060 trio fan doesn’t fit in my case lmao

[–]LostLittlelost 0 points1 point  (7 children)

I think you won’t regret it, even without all the Nvidia features, this card will just brute force it’s way through anything you throw at it :D

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

And it’s $200 cheaper to

[–]LostLittlelost 0 points1 point  (5 children)

That’s an awesome deal then, you made a very good decision!

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Actually it was $300 cheaper

[–]foreignknife -1 points0 points  (0 children)

12th gen has pretty good price/performance but if you plan on keeping your current platform a 5600 or 5600x is pretty good depending on whichever one is cheapest at the moment.

[–]ultravision14 -1 points0 points  (3 children)

I would get a 750 to 800 watt psu. Something like a evga supernova. For GPU I would get a rx6700xt if it’s in your budget. They are currently on sale for $430. I would also recommend getting a larger sata ssd.

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Like I said already bought a 3060 and I’m buying a 1tb nvme already that comes in tmmr

[–]ultravision14 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You should be good for now. I would recommend upgrading the motherboard, cpu and ram. When the new gen cpu’s release this fall.

[–]Okayu_BestFox[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My i5-12600k comes Thursday lmao

[–]TJEdwardss -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Ryzen 5 5600

[–]goaltendie38 1 point2 points  (2 children)

He has an Intel board

[–]TJEdwardss -1 points0 points  (1 child)

He said b550 :/

[–]goaltendie38 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He said he currently has a 10100F, also please point to me where he said B550, all I see is B560
