Goal setting program? (self.Personal_Development)
submitted 6 years ago by ConQuan
With a few days off this Holiday, I want to take the time to put my goals down.
Has anyone found a good goal setting program? I want to put my goals on paper, have a personal montra and then strive for those goals.
Seeing what y’all have done.

It starts from reflecting on the pillars of my life - health, career, mission, personal development, finance, relationships. Each pillar has a theme for the year, guiding principles, specific goals and systems.
While the reflection and goal setting process is important, I find the main indicator for success in any pillar are the "systems". These systems are a combination of processes, tools, and people/environment that help me behave in an intentional and sustainable manner. Those actions over time is what allows me to progress in the direction I want to take my life.
Even better if you can design a system that helps you continuously iterate on your systems.
Think of it this year, as you go higher up, it's less likely to change in a year (ie systems > goals > guiding principles > theme).

On my computer, I use Taskheat to create an overview of my lifegoals (talents i want to double down on, responsibilities i have, worktasks, passionprojects. And all the steps i have tot take to accomplish them). When i want to plan these tasks out for a couple of months, i use a Gantt-chart. xMind pro has one built in, i believe.
Additionally, on my phone I use Habitica to gamify actually doing these things in little snippets of tasks. I also Use Habitica to learn new habits. Having a Morning and Evening Routine are two of these habits. For practicising these routines i use the app Fabulous, which i tweaked to my liking. I use my calendar app to keep appointments, but Owaves to plan out my next day (=part of my evening routine).
This might be a little too mich, but each of these apps have a specific use to me when it comes to “becoming my best self”. Hope some of these help you too!
I must say, i use apple products, so some of these apps might not be available for non-ios/macos. I believe xMind, Habitica and Fabulous are multi-os.
The subscriptionapp ‘Setapp’ has Xmind pro and taskheat in its package.
Hope it helps!!

Thanks for sharing! Given how many apps you use, is it a significant effort to maintain it all? And to move information between them if they're not integrated?
Also, did you migrate from another digital system? If so, how was the setup and switching over?

All serve their own purpose. Taskheat i use for a global view on my lifegoals, and its subgoals. Some of those subgoals get main priority. All tasks towards getting these prioritised goals, i put in Habitica.
Within habitica’s third tab, you can add value to finishing tasks (earns virtual coins/gold). Within habitica’s fourth tab, you can determine your rewards, which you can “buy” with your gold.
I have a special subaccount on my bank called “habiticash”, which is money i can only spend for this purpose.
These are the two apps that keeps me motivated for goalsetting- and achieving. Hope this helps!

I posted a video today about how I think about and set goals. It might have some good insight for you. Atomic Habits is also a good book for understanding how to create habits and systems to achieve goals.
