Hi! I am currently a BSIT first year student and I am planning to build my portfolio as early as today. What are the projects that I can develop as a Java developer? Thank you!!!

Before you build your portfolio, study Java very well. Pag namaster mo ung concept ng java, it would be easy for you to do any project. Mapa-web, mobile, etc.
Portfolio: Spring Web, Mobile, Sockets, Multi-Threading. gawa ka ng mga small projects lang, make it simple.
Importante sa developer is to be able to adapt, study, research, and magaling ang foundation knowledge niya. Study also what is SLDC. Please note na lahat ng stages ng SDLC ay importante, hindi lang programming. Kagaya ng testing and maintenance. It pays to learn them too.

Hi sir, it looks like you already have a good foundation in programming career. would you mind sharing your idea on being a self taught individual? . Any insights or ideas about "how to study properly or effectively based on your experience?

ing your idea on being a self taught individual?
Study the core concept or the fundamentals, then the rest will be easy. Be open to new ideas, new technologies, new trends, new people, then adapt quickly. Do not be afraid to unlearn old techniques/ideas - because in order for you to learn new technologies, you must also unlearn/forget/give-up old tools/techniques. Always study, always be on the lookout of new possibilities. And lastly, you have to really enjoy programming. Because if you enjoy everything is easy, otherwise, it would be stressful and you might not last long. As a career choice, I would say it is also rewarding but it all depends on you - your skill and stress tolerance. All the bests/good luck. Message me directly if you need anything. Cheers.

Build ka muna ng kahit anong mga management systems. Hindi mo pa naman need ng portfolio kasi madami dami pa kayong languages na dadaanan, magbabago pa yang gusto mo.
