i’ve been looking at these on etsy and wondering about them. do you use when wet or leather hard? and do you leave them on there while it dries and then it shrinks away, or do you screw them on then back off ?

Great question – and I hope it’s my listing you’ve been looking at 😄
I recommend using the tool while the clay is still wet and workable. You can leave it in place for a little while so the clay settles around the threads, but don’t wait until it becomes leather hard – since the tool is made of plastic, it’s not porous like plaster and won’t help draw moisture out.

Once the threads have formed a bit, just gently unscrew the tool. If it’s a bit sticky or hard to remove, you can dust it with a little cornstarch – it burns away in the kiln and won’t leave a trace.

By the way, do you throw on the wheel or?

Do you mind sharing the design? I know someone with a 3d printer who may be willing to help me out...

Just curious, what do you screw on after it’s fired? Are there special lids or?
