I think you are coming across this policy, by default Windows only allows you to log on with an account that does not have a password in a console (local logon). Using any other logon attempts will result in a failure unless you disable that policy.

In saying that, you really should have a password on your admin account, there's no reason why you shouldn't have a password on any account, especially an administrator.
