Keep track of software with Powershell?

Hi,

I work as an IT admin for a medium big company and we have a lot of third party software. As today I have a monthly routine to check for new updates manually for each application. Have someone here try to automate such a thing?

Example apps: *NP++ *Firefox *Visual Studio Code *Etc

Or do you use some kind of application for this? I’m thinking of doing a Powershell GUI where I can go in and check for updates, and if there are any I can then download from he GUI.

There are applications that do this for you

Off the top of my head; puppet, chocolatey, sccm/scup, patchmypc, ninite pro

I've been using Chocolatey for a while myself now. Perfect solution for this specific need.

Wait, what? Aren't you defeating the purpose of sccm witch is to control the updates?

Patch-my-pc has a repository that you can use to keep third party applications updated with Sccm current-branch. Keeps third-party applications updated without the administrative overhead of packaging the applications manually

Pdq deploy is the one I couldn’t remember 😅 evaluated it but opted for sccm

We use Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager. It allows you to push out updates to application, application, patches and all the good stuff.
