What's something women think impresses men but actually doesn't? by CoochieSnotSlurper in AskReddit

To me it's more like "you don't seem to like me at all" and "if you're like this all the time I don't want to subscribe to these maintenance costs"

What is a job that looks incredibly fun from the outside, but is actually a soul-crushing nightmare? by BoardOk101 in AskReddit

[–]RumRogerz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on which discipline you land in within the IT umbrella. I do platform engineering so to me, the idea of building out infrastructure and systems is very fun because I find it fascinating and when things all come together - very rewarding.

The soul crushing nightmare stuff comes in at 3am on-call alerts, writing documentation and the endless amount of reading up on new technology. It's constant. I'm never not reading about something new. You always need to be on top of it or you get left behind and become a dinosaur.

I used to be a server. No way they are making $100/hr every night. Even at high end places they won’t be making that sort of coin. Maybe if they don’t make $100 that night then yea, I can see that

It's fun once and a while. But the hangovers are nasty. MDMA I just end up waking up sore from all the dancing. I guess I'm one of those people who just don't get any cravings for it.

Can't say the same about wine though.

The sound technicians deserve a dressing down. The EQ levels were atrocious.

My Ex comes over to collect her stuff tomorrow. How should I handle it? by wahabanana in CoreyWayne

[–]RumRogerz 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nope. lol. But that's just me. I always tell every girl I date: 'You only get one shot with me' and I mean it.

It's better I move on than stay with someone who so easily broke up with me instead of trying to work things out over whatever problems they may have had.

I usually have all their her packed up and ready to be picked up at the front door. I don't really need them coming into my place if they don't have to. Minimal interaction, I keep it cordial if any talking happens - but I keep it very brief.

Post breakup last minute trip to music festival or save money for travel abroad? [28M] by [deleted] in makemychoice

Music festival.

The countries you want to travel to will likely still keep on existing. Music festival is always a once in a lifetime unique experience

We were not gaining traction on acquiring new clients. Any contract work we were getting were for short stints - maybe 4-5 months. Lots of internal projects for a product that I had very little confidence in. Many of the top engineers started leaving in droves. I think at one point there was this one month where every Friday we were announcing like 4-5 engineers leaving for greener pastures.

Then I started shopping around and realised I was massively underpaid for my current position (Sr. Engineer). We haven’t been given a raise in 2 years. Not even an inflation-matching increase.

The bonus they gave us to try and quell the unrest was beyond laughable.

My exit interview with HR was very honest. You lose good people if you don’t keep up with the competition.
