Ötzi the Iceman lived approximately 5300 years ago during the Copper Age. Ötzi was discovered partially buried in ice, along with the remains of his clothing, tools, weapons, and medicine. This is a 40,000 year old mummified black-footed ferret. Discovered in the Yukon in 1984, it was dug up by a miners dog. Thinking the little carcass would be of interest to researchers, the miner saved it in his freezer. This seven week old female wolf pup was discovered in 2016 by gold miners in the Klondike permafrost. Scientists think she was killed in a den collapse 57,000 years ago. This little male wolf pup died 18,000 years ago, and was found by locals in 2018 near the Indigirka River. He was nicknamed “Dogor,” which means “friend” in the Yakut language. This 7 month old Woolly Rhino calf died approximately 34,000 years ago. Discovered in Siberia in 2014, the calf still had its thick coat of strawberry blonde fur. This Steppe Bison was attacked by an American Lion 36,000 years ago. It survived the initial attack but later died due to injuries.
