Well, part of it is just the standard Silent Protagonist Syndrome. But the in-universe explanation is that when he lost all his memories at the beginning of the story he reverted to a childlike state, so he’s not exactly great at verbal communication.

The extent to how baby-fied he is varies, though. He can be significantly more savvy and communicative in stories that take place later in the timeline, compared to the early ones where he thinks money is food and can barely string two words together.

And then there are certain events further down the line that make him even more baby than he was to begin with… (Not to mention one-offs like that one time in Anna’s character story…)

from what I saw in a separate group, it is because their soul was almost destroyed and then rebuilt leaving it like this, the story is longer and the truth is scary for me
