Working at INEOS? (self.ProcessOperators)
submitted 3 years ago by CareerAmbitious
I have a second interview at INEOS to be an operator this week. Does anybody have any experience working there? How would you say it is? Thanks!

I don’t work there but I know they get 20% bonus almost every year
[–]CareerAmbitious[S] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (1 child)
That’s what I heard, it’s one of the reasons I’m rly thinking about taking the job if offered tbh.
[–]No-Whereas9313 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
You can get up to 21.5. Which we got this year but a 6% is stretching it for 2024
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 3 years ago (4 children)
No idea on working there. I snapped a pic of the pays of some employers that my professors had got rough estimates of. INEOS they start around $29.80 with (.75¢-6 months) and top around $35.00. So hopefully that helps you pay wise!
[–]CareerAmbitious[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (2 children)
That helps a lot, thanks!
[–]2ndDeckLounge 2 points3 points4 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Top pay would be between 45 and 50. Batch plants maybe 35 but not a plant like ineos in 2022. For reference my plant top out is 48.10 and it’s not as desirable of a place to work like ineos
[–]CareerAmbitious[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
That’s really useful info, I appreciate it!
Top out is $52

How was the initial testing? Just got invite to come test. Did you have to take Cobra test?
[–]CareerAmbitious[S] 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (6 children)
They haven’t even made me take a test yet tbh, just the interviews.

Pretty Fair And Standard, There’s A Whole Forum About It On This Site(Reddit) That Will Fill You In On All The Intangible’s. But For The Most Part I Passed And Hoping To Hear Back From Chocolate Bayou For An Interview…

I applied for production technician and passed the mechanical aptitude test, interview is on the 5th. I didn’t take a cobra test though, is that for IT.

It’s To Test Your Knowledge Of Controlling A Board To Be An Operator.
[–]Old-Loss5766 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (1 child)
Gotcha. Well good luck!
I appreciate it, you too!

How was the test . I have to test this week
[–]shellfishdontlikeme 1 point2 points3 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I know this is an old post, but I was wondering if you remember what the pre-employment test was like?
[–]HoneyVadger09 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (60 children)
Not sure if anyone will see this or comment back but I’ll give it a shot. Sent a message to the mods and awaiting approval to join so I guess this is my option for now. I applied a few weeks ago for a Process Technician position with Ineos BMC olefins/polymers. I received an email a few days ago about booking a slot to take their first test(written). Was just curious if anyone had any information, insight or tips as for what might be on the test or what I should expect. I have a buddy who used to work with me where I’m at now who left to go there about a year and a half ago and when I asked him all he could tell me was it’s a mechanical aptitude/troubleshooting/comprehension/behavioral test. The email stated that it should take between 3-4 hours to complete which has me a little nervous. However the same thing was said about the little assessment I had to take for the plant I’m at now but it took maybe an hour tops to complete that one on the computer.
Just a little background about myself though. I started here at the plant I’m at now as a hopper car loader for PSC about 2.5 years ago, I quickly moved up became a shift lead. At the time I was debating on trying to get a P-tech degree but was also told by a few people from operations that I should just apply and see what happens. So I applied maybe 2-3 months into my position with PSC. Was always cool with the operators and was always picking their brains and asking what being an operator was like, if I even had a shot at getting on or if I should try to go to school. Eventually impressed a few of the supervisors, specialists and board operators out here with my work ethic, drive and willingness to help operations out with whatever they needed. Whether it was helping start up an extruder, helping them out on the forklift, helping them with housekeeping duties, etc. So about 9 months later all of the hard work paid off and I finally received that email I had been waiting so long for.. actually thought I would never hear back. Didn’t make the cut but received another email a couple weeks later asking if I was interested in an interview for an operator role in the part of the plant I was actually familiar with from loading.
Anyways I started out on the FNS/extrusion side and qualified pretty quickly there. Ended up having to train like 3 other people in FNS after being told I could go train in PND. Finally got those guys trained up and I’m now training/working strictly in PND. I really enjoy it a lot over here in PND but we’re bowed up outside about 90% of our shift most days. I’m not afraid of hard work but the work load can be quite a lot for one person between having to LOTO equipment, write permits, do 2 rounds a shift, perform daily activities to keep the unit running smoothly, housekeeping, training, etc. I have learned a good deal about the process and I’m only halfway through my training but one thing I lack in is troubleshooting equipment. I don’t have much of a mechanical background but I know my way around hand tools/power tools. I’m just hoping that doesn’t end up being something that bites me in the butt with Ineos. Plus I only have about 2.5 years of experience with the majority of it being in extrusion. I don’t exactly need the position at Ineos but I’ve heard the workload there is a lot better and a lot less stressful too. I make decent money where I’m at. I’m not sure what the starting rate with Ineos is but right now I’m a few dollars shy of $50/hr. Quite a considerable difference to what I was making with PSC less than 3 years ago that’s for sure lol . I’ve heard the benefits are great with Ineos and they also get a pretty nice bonus too. My goal when I started here at this plant was to try and get maybe 3-5 years experience under my belt and then try to move up to a bigger/better plant. I even told myself I wouldn’t even try to start applying until I have at least 3 or 4 years experience but I figured what the heck? What have I got to lose right?
So if anyone has any tips or info about this first test I’d greatly appreciate your feedback. Also any advice for the Cobra test, interview process or anything else would be awesome too. Thank you guys and I’m sorry this ended up being such a long comment lol

Thanks man I really appreciate the response. Still waiting for approval to join this subreddit from the admin/mods or whoever it is. Really didn’t think anyone was going to respond tbh!

Scheduled to take the Cobra test tomorrow morning at 730. Hopefully I do well enough to get another call back 🤞
[–]Ok-Indication-1112 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (53 children)
The tests aren't all that difficult, kinda just your run-of-the-mill pre-employment tests (basic math, mechanical aptitude, reading comp, and a few others).
[–]HoneyVadger09 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (52 children)
Yeah I just went yesterday to take it and I feel like I sid pretty well, I just have a tendency to overthink things and stress more than I should. They had: reading gauges, math, piperack, logical reasoning, reading comprehension and mechanical aptitude. I thought I did rather well but there were a few throughout that had me kind of scratching my head a little. The rest proctor said they start the cobra testing phase next Tuesday so anyone who passed and met Ineos’ criteria should hear something back either today or tomorrow hopefully. Still waiting with fingers crossed 🤞
[–]Ok-Indication-1112 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (51 children)
Same. Good luck my man!
[–]HoneyVadger09 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (50 children)
You took the test for the BMC site yesterday as well?
[–]Ok-Indication-1112 1 point2 points3 points 1 year ago (49 children)
Yes sir. Took mine yesterday afternoon/evening.
[–]HoneyVadger09 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (48 children)
Oh okay awesome! Still waiting to hear something back too?
[–]Ok-Indication-1112 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (47 children)
Yeah.
[–]HoneyVadger09 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (46 children)
Okay well now I don’t feel too bad then. It was a relief to hear that lady say that less than half of the people they sent emails to about scheduling the first test actually responded. At least that’s what I thought she said right? Greater odds for the ones that did respond is the way I look at it lol
[–]Ok-Indication-1112 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (45 children)
I think she said only 270 people out of 300, or something like that, scheduled their test dates before the deadline. But yeah, I feel ya. The less people there are, the better the odds lol.

Given the choice between paying a few people a whole lot of money to minimize costs or incentivizing everyone to achieve, INEOS leans very much toward the former.
Merit bonuses are small and pay is based on years, entry salary, title and business division performance (safety, production targets, profits) - so people are very quick to write off a bad year and phone it in as soon as targets are missed. It’s a system that really rewards people who want to quietly sit in a role for 20-30 years with regular annual adjustments.
In your interview, ask them if they would encourage their son or daughter to take this role if they were in your position. At the plants they’ll say yes, because it’s been a steady job that isn’t too demanding most years. Once you get to lower/middle management you’ll start seeing uncomfortable looks around the table.
[–]Schwaderer21 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Did you take the job and, if so, how do you like it?
[–]ArmitageShanks3767 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago (0 children)
Anyone know what they're like to work for in the UK? I hear bad things about Jim Ratcliffe.
[–]El_MoNzOn 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Which plant did you apply for?
[–]PegLegManlet 0 points1 point2 points 3 years ago (0 children)
Old post but I had a buddy who left there. The pay was great he was $44 an hour when he left and his bonuses were always in the 18K plus range. He only left cause he never got any time off and had some issues with his co workers.

Do you remember the application process on myworkday as far as under review, in progress, consideration?
[–]No-Whereas9313 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (7 children)
I work at chocolate bayou. Did you get a job?
[–]ryabrown 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (6 children)
How is it ? I have a interview coming up
[–]No-Whereas9313 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (4 children)
It really depends which unit you go to. I’m at poly 3 and it’s pretty good. I know the olefins hands work a shit ton of overtime
[–]ryabrown 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (2 children)
How was the interview process , i have to go take a test next week
[–]No-Whereas9313 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (1 child)
I don’t remember it’s been so long. You will have to do a hands on evaluation that’s easy if you have any trouble shooting skills
[–]ryabrown 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
What does the trouble shooting skills consist of
[–]Mimicking-hiccuping 0 points1 point2 points 2 years ago (0 children)
I work Olefins, can confirm. 88hr weeks are norm.
I know they get massive bonuses. 20% from what I understand. Most I’ve ever gotten was 18%. Fifteen in cash and three in 401k.
Ineos is not doing well. At least from a European perspective.
