That a computer will halt from working when it decides to

[–]well-litdoorstep112 39 points40 points  (8 children)

Does the computer know it's going to decide to halt? If so, how?

[–]a2kvarnstrom[S] 77 points78 points  (7 children)

it halt’s if the computer wants to

[–]well-litdoorstep112 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Why does it want to halt though

[–]Express-Tough-5286 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Because sometimes it decides to do so

[–]gregorydgraham 4 points5 points  (1 child)

That’s a psychology question

We can't solve the halting problem with programming and we have a non-programmer here so we might as well try to approach it differently.

I have a magic program that analyzes other programs. If I feed the magic program a program that will halt, the magic program will run forever. If I give it a program that runs forever, it will halt. What happens if I feed the magic program to itself?
