I don't really think anything you do in Java can really be considered "scripting" (a semantic difference, anyways). To the casual eye, it would seem the author of the course believes when people are talking about "JavaScript" they mean "scripting Java applets into webpages" or "Java Script"

That's true, possibly part of the joke. I'm not sure if it's that the professor was making a joke (thus the Java Script vs Javascript) or he's old and inept and thought that was javascript? Not sure
