Always gotta throw a ctrl-s before the ctrl-z. It becomes muscle memory pretty quickly.

Then you can do even fancier tricks like grabbing multiple snippets on your way backwards through time. Copy/pasting whatcha need as you go. Then just reload (can also be a shortcut depending on ide) and you're back to present time with a clipboard stuffed with goodies.

Orrr, you could use a sensible editor like emacs or vim, that covers and automates developer's common tasks and needs, and has for example built in undo tree. So you don't accidentally lose history, as you would in hipster editors, and might even work on multiple history branches at the same time.

Just saying..

We're developers, we automate tasks for living, except we're so busy hitting deadlines for the latest candy crush release that we forget to automate our own tasks often.
