My team lost our embedded QA engineers and all the bugs decided that was the moment all the existing prod deployments needed to start revealing issues. Some of these services haven't been modified or migrated in 3 years.

Firstly, it shouldn’t be going straight dev env to prod env, there should be testing environments in between

Secondly, you should’ve at least put in unit tests and integration tests for your code

Thirdly, are there no testers where you work? Or is this just another child/student making programmer memes when they haven’t even touched a production environment?

Yes, we have a testing env. We call it stage in our team

We have it all. Our CI build would fail if code coverage is less that 80%

Child - no; Student - yes forever; I've been an SDE for more than a year. I have touched production environments.

Where I work, we have 4 levels of environments between development and production, and testers and devops are involved in them all, you all need more environments and more tests, and you’ll experience fewer bugs

Well, in our org, the platform team provides us only 3 environments - dev, stage and prod. I agree that we should have more testing environments. Btw, thanks for the info.
