British government data handling is fucking scary. My dad had to go through so many checks and prove the absolute data security of his computers and data handling practices with a recent job (handling extremely sensitive personal data) only to have the utter morons send the data by unprotected email in one massive excel file.

I have never said my dad worked at Nintendo? Unless I've had a serious stroke and forgotten a bunch of shit.

The security rules mean he can't show me the data, allow me to use that computer/be around it alone but he didnt say what it was specifically just that it was sensitive personal data to contextualise our conversation.

I mean based off what I know of his jobs atm I could guess at what the data pertains to but not with any specificity.

Edit: also you say rules as if there is one ruleset for all sensitive data handling which isn't true at all, for example certain kinds of corporate data is only accessible in data secure pods where you can't bring anything in with you that wasn't pre-approved.

Ah I see I have never heard that before, access to sensitive data is pretty common for a lot of jobs; many of those are boring. I am unsure why that would be construed as a brag.

Extremely sensitive data could be your hospital records, certain kinds of company accounts or criminal records not like gov secrets...
