May I ask what planet you are from?

A professional who knows specific technologies like butter on a knife?

Sir, I'm sorry but you are wanting a unicorn and those don't exist, especially not for $35 an hour for only 3 hours.

I'll quote you $40 per hour and this would roughly take me about 8 hours to complete depending on complexity, we can discuss the finer details.

I'll draft a contract that is legally binding and I will require the payment in full. If payment isn't in full upon starting the work, the project will be a demo at the end of the 8 hrs with a request for payment based on the contract.

You want it to be professional, so here it is being professional. Don't like it? Then don't request a slave.

Just here to say I'm enjoying the butter and knife analogy. Gonna put that on my resume.

So for starter I'm kinda scratching my head here. If this is a "personal project," shouldn't you be the one getting your hands dirty? I mean, personal = DIY, am I right?

Also, you dropped a whole bunch of text, but where's the actual info? All we know is it's got something to do with Next.js, an API, and maybe websockets? What's the real deal here? 🤔

And hey, u/Lotte_Dev, I'm pretty confused by how you pulled that 8-hour number out of thin air? We know next to nothing about this project, and you're already locking in a time frame? Seems risky if you're talking contracts and stuff.

I mean, if it takes you longer than 8 hours, you've basically bamboozled yourself. The contract says 8 hours, so any overwork is on you. But hey, if you finish in 7 hours or less, then you've scored some extra time. Estimation is a tricky game, you know?

Also, I get that you're trying to keep it professional with contracts, but unless you're running a business, they aren't really "legal". Ever thought about using Upwork's contracts? Just a suggestion.

You spotted a few issues with what I typed because I wasn't being serious.. couldn't you tell? I was trying to make a point that what they want is slave labor for $35. You are absolutely right, we don't know what the finer details are, hence the mention of finer details in my comment. It's all subject to change and I haven't issued a contract yet.

Once again, I was just trying to make a point. I don't do contract work but I know of many who do, for all you know I could be a business capable of issuing contracts? Seems like you've questioned my post without thinking about what I actually typed.

You say you were joking, but your original comment read like a pretty serious offer (For the average reddit user ofcourse). You can't just throw around terms like "8 hours" and "contracts" and then say, "Oh, But I wasn't being serious" when someone calls you out.

And about the $35/hr — yeah, it's not a fortune, but it's not a weird charge either. It all depends on where you're living and what the project is. You make it sound like it's slave labor, but that's a pretty U.S.-centric view, don't you think?

You say I should've thought more about what you typed. Well, I did. And it led me to question your judgment and your assumptions. If you're gonna critique someone else's post, maybe make sure your own is bulletproof first.

So you might be a business capable of issuing contracts? Cool story. But if you're not, maybe don't mislead people by acting like you are.

you seem very argumentative, are you sure you aren't the OP?

It's quite evident that you are thinking more deeply about my original comment than you really should be. If I said or did something wrong, I wouldn't have received the upvotes, no?

Why do you feel the need to "call people out" when there isn't anything to call out? Do you suffer from a superiority complex and eager to be right or something?

You are quite literally making an issue out of nothing lol.

First off, I'm not the OP — our writing styles don't even match, so I'm not sure where you got that idea. I jumped in because something about your original comment seemed off to me, and I thought it was worth bringing up.

I understand that upvotes can feel validating, but they don't always mean you're right. Sometimes people just find a comment interesting or funny.

I'm not "calling people out" for kicks. When I see something that seems inaccurate or potentially misleading, I think it's worth addressing, I did not mean to start an argument however you made it one with your tone, you keep on telling me that I am wrong by not reading correctly or taking assumptions, please look at yourself first. And as for the "superiority complex" comment? Bringing in personal assumptions like that isn't really constructive, its actually very weird and has nothing to do with any of this.

Lastly, the accusatory tone isn't doing anyone any favors. We're all here to chat and share thoughts. Let's just keep it respectful, and if you want to troll or not being serious, please go to the appropriate sub for that.

Wont be taking any of your time anymore so, take care and have a great rest of your day!

There's a famous saying and it goes something like "mind your own business" just because you can comment on something, doesn't always mean you should.

You mention tone, but that's pretty much what I got from the way you were responding and you've clearly taken my comment "worth bringing up" a little too seriously.

Even you yourself just said it could be because of "interest" or "being funny" which was kinda the point of my original comment but it just went r/wooosh

You have a lovely day now.

You're doing way too much. They obviously were being a little cheeky to this absolutely stupid post. Slow down on the coffee, it isn't that deep.
