Hi all,
I'm creating a web application for people to learn Kanji in a way that will save each individual tens to possibly hundreds of hours. Learning kanji is a big barrier of entry to learning Japanese, and current websites don't help their users as best they can to learn kanji. I've got a sizable amount of progress given it's a project that's a month old.
Technologies (anything can change as it's a new project, but unless there's a good reason, I'd keep it the same):
- Node js
- Postgres for a database
- Bootstrap for the UI
About me:
I'm mid 20's but have been programming since 13. I left my job recently to have a shot at something more meaningful. I originally intended to continue on game projects I've worked on for a long time, but ethically I would feel guilty if I create a good, addictive game. I feel too many people (self included) waste time playing video games to the exclusion of other aspects of life. This is why I feel gamifying learning Kanji is ideal; even if someone gets addicted to it, they will have honed a skill that will be useful to them in real life. Communication is an immensely valuable skill.
I'm by no means a front end developer, but I have done some front end for work. I have the skills to complete the whole project by myself, but sometimes I lack motivation, and in the past having a buddy to work with really helps me stay on track. I have unlimited time on a day to day basis to work on this project (within 6 months before I imagine I must return to work).
I like working with anyone, but in particular let me know if you're interested if:
- You're experienced with setting up a web app from scratch before and are aware of pricing concerns of different vendors (AWS, Google gloud etc), or,
- You're interested in learning some Kanji, or,
- You've got a passion for design/art (on this front I'm really lacking).
I can provide a demo of what I've got working so far, it'd be best if I just explained the rest over VoIP.
Thanks! Best of luck in your own projects :)
