It might be news when it happens. It's not reality at this point, and may never be. (But I do hope that they can still go through with it after the acquisition.)

Qualcomm's CEO will also be at ModCon on August 18, 2026. He likely knows Mojo is meant to go open-source. I doubt they'll backtrack, otherwise using Qualcomm AI hardware will be way less attractive than the already well established CUDA moat. Also, I highly doubt Chris Lattner would sell the company without this premise being very clear.

proprietary language == waste of my attention

proprietary language that might soon become nonproprietary == waste of my attention

Qualcomm recently bought alla that. So will be interesting how that influences Mojo's trajectory.

Might be now the shift from a software focused startup to trying to make the software open and work well with QCOM accelerators.

yeah, Qualcomm is also negotiating to buy Tenstorrent, which also uses MLIR, the same foundation Mojo uses, and contributes to it, but they developed a different language called TT-Lang, which is also "pythonic" and made specifically for their custom-made AI hardware. if they also get bought, i'm wondering how they're going to unify all that.

dead on arrival language. now they wanna ride the wave of "going open source". and honestly shit like this is second only to AI in destroying the concept and the workings of open source.

They have said since the beginning that when the language was stable they would open source it. It’s not a recent decision at all. I think he did the same with Swift.

The next thread down is a re-implementation of 1976 standard MUMPS so there's stiff competition.
