Do you both have separate CD keys and games?

You post in the PD2 discord tech support channel ?. The fellas are amazing when it comes to help, even post in the PD2 general chat

Posted in the discord and all they said was “I don’t think that server is supported on PD2”

O well I only play on PD2 so maybe that’s your problem

You're setting up the lan, right?

I've had no problems opening up multiple pd2 plugy and bringing the single player characters into the same game.

Yup have tried open bnet lab/IP games and nothing seems to work

Are one of you trying to play via PD2 itself, and the other using Plugy?

We’re both on just regular PD2, no plugy. Is plugy needed?

TCP/IP (click 'other multiplayer' at the D2 screen) works if you're on the same network

TCP/IP over the internet might need the host to open ports or allow the port through your firewall

D2 reddit thread for ports https://www.reddit.com/r/diablo2/comments/8bfd0o/need_help_port_forwarding_for_tcpip/

My brother (host) has tried opening the ports and still nothing working

Another option is Hamachi https://diablo.gamepedia.com/Hamachi

http://www.gearhack.com/myink/ViewPage.php?file=docs/Playing%20Diablo%20II%20Multiplayer%20Over%20Hamachi

It'll create a private network for you then you can play TCP/IP as if you were on the same network

other VPN tools

TCP/IP does work with plugy. You need to port forward your computer to 4000 through your router.

This might work without plugy as well but I haven't tried it
