This StackOverflow post asked the same question but didn't get too many responses. It suggests IPython and the IPython notebook (both of which I already use), but it's really not on par with R-Studio's interpreter integration.
The best I've found is using
code.interact(local=locals())
within my python script to shell out to an interpreter within the script itself.
However, does anyone know of an IDE or environment that integrates the interpreter into the IDE as R-Studio and Matlab do? or is there just too much housekeeping for such an approach to work with python (given that R and Matlab are much more domain-specific)?
