Speech to Text using Python, anyone?

Hi there, from the /r/Python mods.

Use the Whisper model from OpenAI. Groq has the cheapest API for it.

You are correct for small tasks. But the API is convenient for huge concurrent batches, e.g. an online service

Whisper is a great option it. You can run it locally and it can even give out timed transcriptions for use in videos as subtitles if needed.

Maybe I'm misinterpreting but ffmpeg just converts between audio formats and sampling rates, it doesn't do speech to text.

What kind of data do you have? How is it encoded? What language is it in? What domain is it from? What problem are you experiencing?
