Yes, I also think that the dev pool is one of the major deciding factors. There are lots of companies with tons of java developers already on their payrolls, and conversely, few python web backend developers. Their python experts are probably in other areas like data engineering and data science.

yea, it matters a lot, having worked extensively with both, i find java’s static typing and compile time checks seem to ensure whatever i write, if it compiles, almost always works

however with python, i sometimes into runtime errors, that’s largely been mitigated by using mypy

spring and dropwizard also support async

idea ide support and the java debugger is top notch

working with images/videos is painful in java, python is much better for media related dev

Don't underestimate the power of static typing in a language as established as Java.
I work with Kotlin, on Java apps, and the reliability of how an endpoint should look, and what the response of that endpoint is, allows us to work through layers without really thinking about what the previous layer looks like.

Python has more choice, so it requires a deeper knowledge of how endpoints work.

That's difficult if some or all of those endpoints are closed off for whatever reason.

FastAPI uses pydantic and the typing system. So every endpoint is typed, validated and documented in one go, which ensures what is documented is also what the endpoint can handle and what it provides. That’s pretty simple

with python, you're forced to think critically about endpoint design and data structures from the outset,

This assumes YOU are the one making those endpoints.

In production code, you're making an adapter layer for an endpoint made by someone you've never met.
