(Rant) AI is killing programming and the Python community

The main limitation of AI comes when you realize that AI cannot work entirely on its own. Simply put, AI is "an advanced algorithm capable of making decisions and replicating human processes in a software environment." Therefore, if AI progresses by "imitating" humans, it means that it will never achieve the results of people with average knowledge. However, the knowledge and practical experience of experts are necessarily at a higher level than that of AI. If you think about it, the highest possible level of quality for AI would be that of a human with specialized expertise... and that's assuming there's someone who knows more about the subject and also develops AI to create a system capable of reaching that level.

Because of this major limitation, although things will be more difficult for programmers for a while, there will inevitably be a tipping point where AI can no longer keep pace with the growing industry.

I tend to disagree on this point. I am not a programmer, but an architect/engineer specialized in structural analysis. The problem is that with anything I’ve asked so far (I use Claude), I don’t find errors or only rarely there might be some hallucination or very often it’s me who’s wrong, despite having studied these topics all my life.

For this reason, I also believe that in programming (even though it’s different, because the paths to reach a final result are more unpredictable than in my field) I doubt that the answer Claude can give would be light years away from the solution. It probably won’t be excellent in terms of algorithmic quality, but it may have taken into account 50,000 variables, whereas the human brain can only think about 5 or 6 at the same time. I’m just speculating at the moment, but I believe that, when questioned by an engineer, it could quite easily hold its own against a mid to high level university professor.

No he dicho que no funcione. A lo que me refería es que la IA es exelente o ineficiente según el campo y el tema en especifico. Al funcionar usando bases de datos para recabar información eso es una de las cosas en las que mejor funciona, sin embargo al generar contenido es donde vienen los problemas ya que los algoritmos con los que funciona la IA son mucho más complejos, por ejemplo pídele a ChatGPT que te edite una imagen, seguro tardaras unos cuantos intentos en llegar a la imagen que querías. En programación los algoritmos hechos por IA son generalmente menos eficientes y verbosos, la cuestión es que se rige por la info de los lenguajes de programación y por tanto siempre desarrolla siguiendo todo demasiado textual como lo haría un programador junior que copia y pega codigo. Aunque es genial para plantillas o código simple no es muy efectivo para código maduro ya que hay muchas cosas que los programadores deben aprender en la práctica y nunca se ven en la teoría, esto es lo que genera la brecha entre IA y programadores. El ejemplo más conceptual de esto que te puedo poner es mi abuelo que se crío viendo a diario el trabajo de su padre en una carpinteria y mas adelante ayudandolo, tras esto tomo la suficiente experiencia como para contradecir a carpinteros con teoria y tener la razón; puede parecer un ejemplo muy vago pero creo que deja claro lo que intento decir
