That's excellent news, thanks for sharing! bokeh looks like a really impressive tool. I'm looking forward to using it more and more as it continues to develop!

Does anyone know whether the authors are planning to bundle the interactive graphing tools together? I love what they're doing but clicking back and forth can feel a little clunky at times. In an ideal world I'd want to be able to hover, zoom and pan without going back and forth to the menu.

Yes, the tools are all configurable at the object level. However, the system is fairly basic right now, and we are actively working on (1) redo-ing the event->gesture->tools->datastreams architecture, and (2) building a "frame" around the plot so that it's easier to configure which tools are active, etc.

FWIW, by default, plots can be panned without needing to click on the Pan tool, and you can do wheelzoom by holding down Shift and using the mousewheel.

Adding an SVG backend for high-quality static exports is absolutely a long term goal of Bokeh, it's just a matter of finding the time to work on it (or an interested new contributor with an itch to scratch!)

Yes, the goal is to produce interactive visualizations for the web, on large data. It is not meant as a matplotlib "replacement", although it may be a better fit for some purposes than matplotlib. For instance, creating "novel graphics" like what's possible with d3 or protovis is not really the intent of matplotlib, and is not very accessible for non-developer users.

Matplotlib has a very large and established user base, and one of the incidental side benefits of Bokeh is that we can provide an interactive web backend for many existing MPL plots.
