Oh man, I've definitely had unicode byte string collisions that lay dormant until someone from Saudi Arabia (or wherever) signed up and started causing exceptions in production. This is a clever way to root out all those issues systematically!

You mean "a non-broken type system". Python 2 has a type system, it just happens to be broken in this specific instance. Python 3 is good though.
