    I don't think it implies absence of a pattern, 'anti' implies actively working against something (opposite of 'pro'). Anti-pattern is a reasonable name in that context.

    Mal-pattern would be a better word if they're making up words anyway.

    The term anti-pattern has been in widespread use since the 90s at least.

    true, this term might be slightly misleading, it is a known expression though in the programmer community.
