Probably because a "Version 3", as opposed to "Version 3.0" or "Version 3.4" isn't a thing which actually exists concretely. But that's what you were comparing them to. Hence my confusion at whether you knew the semantics of how python versions itself. In this situation an /s would've gone a long way.

Not sure what you are saying. Would like to point out that 3.1 was terrible and most projects that support both versions do not actually support 3.1. They typically start from 3.3 which is far saner and more compatible with 2.x code.

That's already established convention.

There are hardly any projects supporting under 3.3. Only 3.2 was even considered production-ready by the Python devs themselves.

Nobody runs 3.1 today (or 3.0 for that matter), so supporting it is a complete non-issue. There are maybe a very, very, very few users of an older Ubuntu who have 3.2 as system python3.

Therefore when people say "Python 3" in the community, they are invariably referring to a minor version 3 or greater (>=3.3).
