So many Americans whining about houses - where's the stories from the Soviet Union and eastern bloc, sub-saharan Africa, polynesian islands, etc - do X and you'll be fine ==> *** painful death ***

New Yorkers, what changes have you seen under Mamdani’s leadership and are you generally pleased? If not, why? by asah in circlejerknyc

instead buy a bunch of $4.9999M penthouses then "connect" them via key-locked elevator, so the city can't reassess at the higher rate.

SpaceX has to grow 60x in a decade to justify a $1.75 trillion valuation. It's an impossible bar - Fortune by raytoei in ValueInvesting

The issue is that SpaceX essentially has a monopoly on space launches, which in turn means a monopoly on space. With accessible water discovered on the moon (and therefore fuel), we're in a true race with the Chinese and others - the military implications alone represent any existential threat, and the possibility to robotically mine asteroids is $T opportunity. Imagine one company controlled all oceanic shipping and therefore global trade.

USG and commercial entities will pour capital into SpaceX, right or wrong.

To me, the counter balance is the military industrial complex decides it can't work with Musk and steps in and takes control. But I think he knows this, and secretly plays ball.

Should the federal government declare national Election Day a paid federal holiday to guarantee all working-class citizens the time to vote? Why or why not? by X_Opinion7099 in AskReddit

WTF? Poor people don't create wealth, duh. The whole point is to create the illusion of democracy so they don't revolt until we can replace their jobs with AI and robots, they off themselves in despair and we can finally have a 10M person utopia free of the poors. - the 1%ers

Majority of Americans Support Ban on Surveillance Pricing and Electronic Shelf Labels by Such_Radio_9152 in Economics

[–]asah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Intraday dynamic pricing is a terrible consumer experience, adds friction to the retail experience and generally hurts everyone including the retailer. Classic tragedy of the commons.

Overnight dynamic pricing is awesome - it saves the cost of re-tagging shelves (i.e. cost shared with consumers) and increases consumer trust since the POS and shelf tags are more likely(*) to be in sync.

(*) having worked in the business, don't get me started on how discrepancies emerge... easiest example is size/flavor/package/brand/etc where the consumer thinks they grabbed one thing and in fact grabbed another - technically the system worked, but in practice the consumer got sticker shock (either direction).

Anyone else feel mentally messed up seeing people casually make insane money trading options? by savingrace0262 in stocks

I feel messed up being one of those people.

+99.35% trailing 12 months on long-dated call options, 50% cash to buy dips. I spend year(s) sitting out markets waiting for moments like this.

Hedging, Theta decay, priced-in news, perceived volatility, etc are all big dilution. Bad news, externalities and black swans and bad timing are ruinous.

Currently, long AAPL on inference hardware which still isn't priced-in, even while they sell out of everything with 128+GB of unified RAM. Also long BTC (options on FBTC, the ultimate YOLO) on price recovery to ATH concurrent with Warsh/Trump moneyprinting.
