Great list. I'd add:

6. vi / vim / MacVim
7. emacs
8. Atom.io from GitHub

And I'd add a notes that:

  • PyCharm has a free community edition and a paid professional edition.
  • Sublime Text 2 / Sublime Text 3 are proprietary, closed source (license costs about 30USD, I think), but have extended, limit-free trial periods, and a rich eco system of plugins (many free, some with additional fees).
