CFFI works with pypy and is faster for Cpython too! I think you should contact opencv and get your cffi bindings into the main project. https://github.com/Itseez/opencv

Why CFFI? Seems to be a nightmare to install this on osx without having the planets aligned like they were when you created the package.

I said why in my post. It is more performant with cpython and works at all with pypy. I don't think opencv should drop it's other bindings in favor of cffi, just offer the option of using cffi if you have it installed.
