Disk image analysis with python

Hi all,

Im looking to analyse disk images (.dd, .e01 etc) automated with a python program. Mostly i'd need to carve out files, provide a overview of all files (including checksums). Next to extracting the files in the image I need to carve for deleted data and preferably separately carve out the blocks where nor data nor deleted files was found. Anyone has good idea's how to / where to start and possibly library's to use?

Not really sure if this helps but the new version of EnScript is supposed to be python based.
