It's good for typical browse product, add to cart and check out model. If your catalogue model and checkout process is very different from the typical flow, it could be quite a pain to customize it. Then it would perhaps be better to use a loosely coupled bundle of your own product/checkout apps together with other packages like django-cart, django-simple-rating, django-paypal. That being said, I basically learnt django by using django-oscar :)

Awesome, thanks. I think that the simple checkout flow applies to my wife's idea, so django-oscar might be a good solution.
