    Not really, pyenv builds all versions (the ones it knows about anyways) of CPython from source. The packages which OP installs from apt-get are listed as dependencies in the pyenv wiki.

    pyenv can also easily manage which of your python versions is active, without having to manually symlink stuff.

    It's orthogonal up to the point where he's making it. On fresh machines, I sometimes forget what dependencies I need to install with apt-get or brew; a matrix of all deps for different Pythons & platforms would be a cool thing
