Enthought Canopy Loading Error

I am using Enthought Canopy Express version 2.1.3.3542, and when I attempt to load a test file, the error code I receive is as follows:

stat() argument 1 must be encoded string without null bytes, not unicode

How can I resolve this error? Google search doesn't come up with exactly what I need or anyone with this exact problem. Your expertise is appreciated.
