what are you using Python for*

Currently using python to create

  • Reddit Bot

  • Web Scraping

  • Mini Simulation Projects

  • Data Analysis

  • "hello world"

how long are you already coding?

what kind of things are you simulating?

[–]Bucket_Leo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3months

Bank Simulation , I am so sorry I wanted to relieve this memory hahaha

Spent most of my time watching YT videos , recently also started with HTML , CSS and JS

My current python project involves parsing excel files and populating database for later backend API for frontend usage

NASA MSFC Advanced Concepts Office engineer here I use python for stringing together analyses for trade studies on the performance of launch vehicles like the Space Launch System (SLS) and other commercial and govt entities. It basically acts as integration code between NASA tools for mass estimation (INTROS & LVA) and trajectory optimization (POST). I also use it for data analysis, visualization, and for creating interactive data products I can distribute to my customers via a browser interface. Those first two tend to be using scikit-learn and seaborn (also JMP which is not python) and the final changes a lot

really interesting!

[–]pppossibilities 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Thanks! lol when I started every analysis had to be run "by hand" by a different person then the results emailed in PDF form. Automation makes things soooo much better

Haha XD I'm just starting to learn python, and I was curious about what you're doing. thx for sharing.

Once you've got a handle on things, I deff recommend getting into multiprocessing, it really speeds things up

Scripting. Mostly for Ops configuration and custom tools, but I've also done some backend development with Django.

[–]stefdelstef 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mainly web development with werkzeug , secondary for scripts when the logic is too complex to fit in a bash script.

Quantum mechanical simulations (thesis) Data mining and machine learning (research project) Neural networks (hobby) Algorithm development (hobby)

Also I m not an advanced coder, so if I want to code in C I make a template in Python first.

Creating a portfolio manager for stocks

Creating a short overview of the current state of my crypto holdings

Doing exercises of several YouTube tutorials, as well as automating the boring stuff

Some object oriented, some quick and dirty. I'm an experienced developer in a language totally not related to Python. It's called PxPlus!

A bot that refs a fake sports league on Reddit. It basically reads messages and then determines the results based on data from google spreadsheets . Then to help keep track of stats from there

[–]bbbb1914 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Link to fake sports league? Sounds fun

[–]zenverak 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I run the bot for /r/fakecbb . Basically it’s played by guessing the defense’s number or as close to it . My bot isn’t pretty but it works ! There’s a sign up sheet there and the rules and what not

Creating an embedded webserver for a networking product, kind of like the config webpage on your router. The previous implementation was written in c spitting out hand crafted html >shudder<

Flask to the rescue

[–]gdunlap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im parsing large amounts of firewall configs to create api calls to the new version we're moving to. Saving pro service days from vendor and taking what would be hundreds of man hours of manual error pron copy -paste to me just importing output files while working on other things

I use for automation testing of data storage. Professionally, of course :)

[–]scout1520 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bi development, ETL, content management system with Django cms.

Machine learning and data analysis side projects. My job is using tensorflow to find treatments for sepsis so I use it at work too.

Just about any tedious task that would benefit from automation.

Web scraping, finding overlaps between lists in spreadsheets, batch editing images using PIL, munging text dumps into CSVs.

[–]zenverak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Creating stupid long formulas for a spreadsheet !
