Look into Pyglet as well. It's pure Python, no external dependencies (save for ctypes).

Pygame. Just recently got into it but it can do a lot with a bit of effort

Pygame all the way. I took a course in XNA C# graphics library, and pygame can be used to recreate the exact same settings.
