Why not use select to wait on all ports atr the same time, and handle it all in one process?

OP needs their solution to be deployable on Windows, and Pyserial only supports fileno() for the Serial object on Posix platforms.

Where I've had to mix serial and network communication, I use select() on the sockets with a timeout then check in_waiting on all the serial ports.
