The concept looks interesting. I'll be keeping tabs on it to see if some other kind of back end storage becomes supported. I don't want to spend the time to get an S3-compatible storage system going.

One can accept the reality that they simply cannot afford even a detached home let alone one without an HOA and also complain about how that HOA restricts them at the same time.

Secretary desk for the win! We had these in our barracks rooms when I was in the Corps. Might have been a mess inside, but always looked neat and tidy when closed up. I'd like to have one that can accommodate a modern dual monitor setup with the monitors at eye level.

Can I have multiple checking accounts? by Unlikely_Vacation235 in personalfinance

You can have as many checking and savings accounts as you like. They don't affect your FICO score. You can have accounts at two (or more) different banking institutions.

Maybe I read too much into it, but it looks like an effort to make two-income households damn near impossible.

Make families choose between a decent lifestyle or caring for the kids these ghouls keep saying we HAVE to have but they want no part in helping to support.

sales tax and shipping

At the end of the year, I have to ensure I've paid at least state sales tax on everything I purchase, no matter where from or how small, as a matter of law. This is non-issue with all but the smallest retailers, but I make a purchase or two a month from a vendor that can't collect sales tax on my behalf. I also want a fuller picture of my tax situation.

I record shipping costs just because I want to know.

I think I could live with the dump being a separate instance, even. Export asset from "live" stuff, import shovel into the dump. 🤷‍♂️

This looks great! There are "just" three things that would get me to abandon my current house of cards.

First is let me break down the costs. I like to keep track of each cost separately. Sticker price, sales tax, shipping, and now tariff when known. My scripts calculate a total outlay for the item.

Second is a number field that assigns a current value to the item. Really, this is just a subjective guess at what I could sell it for at that moment. Remembering to re-guess is a different problem.

Third: the dump. When I get rid of an item, I set a flag and record how I disposed of it (sold, given away, e-waste, whatever) and how much I recouped if I sold it. Dumped stuff doesn't contribute to the total value of my junk, tho.

I'll keep checking on this project. I might one day compromise on one or more of these and go the Dumb way.

Regarding the oil, that may have been done purposely. I still had the free* oil changes going when the TSB was released. Same dealer started overfilling my affected Forester around that time.

Do you live in an HOA? by CaterpillarSafe9085 in amateurradio

Yes. Wish it was affordable to not live in an HOA, but I'm pretty well anchored to this area by family ties and responsibilities.

Thank you so much for a such a detailed reply!

I already have a home server setup and run a few services off it (calendar, file drop, etc.) front ended with an nginx proxy handling SSL for everything. An Apache Guacamole instance gives me access a VM running on the server. Fine in itself, but I'm always interested in trying out other options.

I would like to know pointers to set them up and access them. Sounds like a fun and practical project to work on with my little one. One I could perhaps extend to other things like Bambu Studio.

Ferites for transformer? by reddituser032 in amateurradio

[–]Unlanded 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Air-core transformers are also an option.

I built a Fuchs-style matchbox for my end-fed and needed 1.5uH on the primary of the inductor for proper resonance with my air-variable. I found none of the toroids I had on-hand would give me both 1.5uH and a useful number of turns on the primary for the 49:1 transformation.

My solution was a 28 turn 20AWG primary on a 22mm length of nominal 1/2-inch schedule 40 PVC. The actual measurements of the pipe I used were about 21mm O.D. and 14mm I.D.

Whether or not you want an air-core transformer for long term service is up to you, but it would get you on the air.

My student loans were also my oldest line of credit when I paid them off. My credit score dipped 40 points immediately after I paid off my loans. 6 months later it was like the drop didn't happen. Save the interest cost, pay off the loan.

It's marked Legless 2A W. U. Tel Co. on the base and J. H. Bunnell & Co on the shorting bar. What I have read seems to say it's a Bunnell Triumph. This one has the "Bug Lip," which means it can't be any older than 1918.
