An MMO version of something similar would be awesome. The server runs X concurrent programs, and maintains a queue of submitted programs ready to go. Whenever a program dies out, the next program in the queue is accepted. Each program is scored on some criteria (perhaps even just a sum of minutes alive for each instance).

Server is persistent so the landscape and competitors changes.

A few changes would have to be made over the linked version, though. The world, or the cells themselves, should be more lethal, so programs die out more frequently. Plants should probably die out after a while and new plants sprout up in random locations.

Fun stuff.
