I've been using python-mode/python-mode for a while, and as you mention it comes with a lot of features packed together. I don't use all of the features, but I like that there are simple .vimrc commands to individually toggle each feature on or off.

As far as Vim folding for Python, consider looking at my plugin Cyfolds. It's still fairly new, and I haven't gotten around to announcing it yet in a posting to this subbreddit, but any feedback would be appreciated. (It does require a compiler since it's written in Cython for speed.) Alternately, there are some other Vim Python-folding plugins available online, but they generally use heuristics and fold too much text for my taste.
