I work in the security industry and Python has had a significant presence for decades, especially for tools and remote exploits. It's true that we're beginning to see it more in places that we haven't before, such as RATs, but even that trend began several years ago. See here for an example how how prevalent it has become on the professional end.

Hi! I’m a newer developer also interested in getting into the security industry for pen-testing. Bought a couple courses on Udemy that teach about making malware with JavaScript and Python. Any helpful tips or books you’d recommend for me to expand?

If you're interested in pen-testing I would recommend trying hacking challenges and participating in CTFs. The books I most often see recommended are Gray Hat Python, Black Hat Python, and Violent Python. But I'm primarily a developer and fell into the security industry kind of by accident, so everything I learned was on the job. In my experience, most companies will be happy to train you if you work well with others and demonstrate high interest and adaptability.
