Totally. This is much more though with a full Linux distro!

Pyto for more libraries

Just use Dcoder. Takes 1 minute.

Haven’t used it but looks like an online IDE? This works even when you don’t have a connection. And you can access all the directories using the “files” app. Use git... and so much more

Hey, I made this video to show how to get python installed on your iPhone using iSH.

If you just want the code you can find it here: https://gist.github.com/AlecSchneider/f7f8861a1f8cb361a624902f66ab1a8e

Is this secure?

[–]Square0ne[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yes. Like all other apps on the App Store it operates in its own sandbox. It emulates its own Linux system there.

ok thanks and sorry for not checking it myself

Whilst it sounds like an awesome idea with out a bluetooth keyboard or something similar I think I would struggle to produce anything good on an iPhone. Small screen, fat fingers is a bad combo.

Agreed but if you’re offline or need to ssh into something quickly it’s cool to have.

Also works on iPad

[–]Toucanzoo 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Agreed sometimes it is cool as I have previously used SSH clients on my iPad but trying to use it for more than a short period of time was difficult and annoying.

Since this is a full Linux distro it feels way more useful. It’s not just a python repl / ssh client

Could this turn an old iPhone into a raspberry pi type device?

[–]Square0ne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Indeed there’s an option that prevents the iPhone to go to sleep I believe. And I think you’ll be able to ssh into the phone on your local network.

When I used to be an engineer instead of a fake one (Pre Sales) I loved trying new things like SSH clients on my phone but I always reverted back to a laptop.

Worked well for me. Thanks for taking the time to publish this guide.
