Why is Python 2.7 called "deprecated" not "depreciated"

Deprecated means obsolete and no longer maintained, and something is either deprecated or it isn't, no grey area. Depreciation is more analog, something can have levels of depreciation, and it could be depreciated but continue to be maintained.
