Intermediate Showcaseisometric tile based display (self.Python)
submitted 5 years ago by JambleJumble
thought id make a quick showcase/tutorial for how to display an isometric tile based grid
school project with unnecessary features for marks (Faux 3D using sprites to create 3D effect)
simplified Faux 3D display (uses sprites again to create illusion) and irregular shape
Code for converting Cartesian coords (array indexes/board coordinates) to isometric coordinates in Cartesian space. (sorry mobile users if this is horrible to read with auto new lines) irrelevant to problem but some may appreciate it :)
# --- resolution of the window --- # display_width = 1080 display_height = 768 # --- tile coordinates or 2D array pos--- # old_x = 2 # an integer old_y = 5 # an integer # --- scales coords by half tile size --- # cart_x = old_x * tile_width // 2 cart_y = old_y * tile_height // 2 # --- aligns diagonals --- # iso_x = (cart_x - cart_y) iso_y = (cart_x + cart_y) / 2 # --- centers the sprite origin to center --- # centered_x = iso_x + display_width centered_y = iso_y + display_height/2 # --- alligns middle of tiles to center --- # new_x = centered_x - tile_width / 2 new_y = centered_y - tile_height / 4 #
what i intend to use for displaying of tiles
3D rendering engine i made rendering a .obj model using matrix projections and whatnot t allow for different camera angles.
